Fillet Weld Metal Weight Calculator

Estimate the deposited metal weight of an equal-leg fillet weld from the leg size and weld length.

How it works

Equal-leg fillet cross-section = 0.5 x leg^2. Deposited weight = area x length x factor x 0.284 lb/in^3 (steel).

Worked example

A 1/4 in leg over 12 in: area = 0.5 x 0.25^2 = 0.03125 in^2, volume 0.375 in^3, weight 0.107 lb.

When to use it

  • Reinforcement factor is about 1.0 for a flat fillet; raise it for a convex face.
  • Steel density is 0.284 lb/in^3; scale for other metals.
