How it works
SG = 141.5 / (API + 131.5) at 60 F. Enter either API or specific gravity.
Worked example
40 API: SG = 141.5 / (40 + 131.5) = 0.825. Water is 10 API = 1.000 SG.
When to use it
- Water is 10 API, which equals a specific gravity of 1.000.
- Higher API gravity means a lighter (less dense) crude.
